Privacy Policy
This policy explains what happens to your information when you visit NikGoodner.com (the "Site") or subscribe to my newsletter.
The short version: I collect very little. I don’t sell your data. Analytics only run if you say yes, and you can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time.
The Site is operated by Nik Goodner LLC, a Florida limited liability company. For visitors in the EEA and UK, Nik Goodner LLC is the "data controller" for the information described here.

Information collected automatically
If you consent to analytics cookies, Google Analytics collects standard web analytics data:
- Approximate location (city/region level, derived from a truncated IP address)
- Device type, browser, operating system, and screen size
- Pages you viewed, how long you stayed, and the order you moved through them
- The referring site or link that brought you here
My hosting provider also keeps standard server logs — IP address, timestamp, requested URL, user agent — for a short period to keep the Site running securely. These are technical and operational, and I don’t use them to build profiles of visitors.
What I don’t collect
I don’t run advertising or retargeting pixels. There are no user accounts, no passwords, no payment processing, and no purchases on this Site. I don’t knowingly collect sensitive categories of personal data, and I don’t ask you to provide any.
2. Cookies and similar technologies

Analytics and email-platform cookies are set to "denied" by default and only load after you accept them in the cookie banner. You can change or withdraw your choice at any time via the Cookie Preferences link in the Site footer. Withdrawing consent doesn’t affect processing that already happened.
Your browser also lets you block or delete cookies directly. Blocking strictly necessary cookies may break parts of the Site.
Global Privacy Control: I honor the GPC signal. If your browser sends it, analytics cookies won’t load and I’ll treat it as an opt-out of any sharing of your personal information.
3. How I use your information
- To send you the newsletter you subscribed to
- To reply to messages you send me
- To understand, in aggregate, what content resonates — so I can make more of what’s useful
- To keep the Site secure, available, and functioning
- To comply with legal obligations
I do not use your information for automated decision-making that produces legal or similarly significant effects.

5. Who I share it with
I don’t sell, rent, or trade your personal information. I don’t share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
I do use a small number of service providers who process data on my behalf:
- Email platform — stores subscriber addresses and sends the newsletter
- Google Analytics — website analytics (only with your consent)
- Hosting and CDN provider — serves the Site and keeps server logs
- Podcast host — serves episode audio; if you play an episode through an embedded player, the host may collect its own listening data under its own policy
Each is bound by contract to use the data only to provide the service to me. I may also disclose information if legally required — a court order, subpoena, or lawful government request — or where necessary to protect legal rights or safety.
6. International transfers
I’m based in the USA and my service providers are primarily US-based, so if you’re in the EEA or UK your data will be transferred to the United States. Where that happens, transfers rely on the EU Standard Contractual Clauses (and the UK International Data Transfer Addendum), or on a provider’s certification under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and its UK extension. You can ask me for details on the safeguards in place.
7. How long I keep it
- Newsletter subscribers: until you unsubscribe, plus a short suppression record so I don’t accidentally re-add you
- Emails you send me: typically up to 24 months, longer if there’s an ongoing conversation or a legal reason to keep them
- Analytics data: up to 14 months in Google Analytics, then aggregated or deleted
- Server logs: typically 30 to 90 days
8. Your rights
Wherever you live, you can:
- Unsubscribe — click the link at the bottom of any newsletter
- Ask what I hold about you, and get a copy
- Correct anything inaccurate
- Ask me to delete your information
- Withdraw consent at any time, for cookies or email
If you’re in the EEA or UK, you also have the right to restrict or object to processing, the right to data portability, and the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority (in the UK, the Information Commissioner’s Office).
If you’re a California resident, you have the rights to know, delete, correct, and opt out of sale or sharing. I do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under the CCPA/CPRA, and I have not done so in the preceding 12 months. I won’t discriminate against you for exercising any privacy right. Residents of other US states with comprehensive privacy laws have comparable rights, and I’ll honor them on the same terms.
To exercise any of these, email me@nikgoodner.com. I’ll respond within 30 days (45 for US state-law requests, extendable where permitted). I may need to ask a question or two to verify that the request is really coming from you — usually just confirming from the email address on file.
9. Security
I use HTTPS across the Site, keep dependencies patched, limit who has access to subscriber data, and rely on providers with established security practices. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so I can’t guarantee absolute security — but I’ll notify you and any required authority if a breach affecting your data occurs.
10. Children
The Site isn’t directed at children under 13, and I don’t knowingly collect personal information from them. The newsletter is intended for subscribers 16 and older. If you believe a child has given me personal information, email me, and I’ll delete it.
11. Third-party sites
The Site links to other websites, tools, and platforms I don’t control. This policy doesn’t cover them. Check their privacy policies before handing over information.
12. AI and your data
I don’t feed newsletter subscriber lists, subscriber emails, or messages you send me into AI training datasets, and I don’t provide them to third parties for that purpose. See my AI Policy for details.
13. Changes to this policy
I’ll update this policy when practices change. The "Last updated" date at the top will reflect the current version. For material changes affecting how I use your information, I’ll notify newsletter subscribers by email, and re-request consent where the law requires it.
